The US could meet up to 74% of its greenhouse gas reduction target by 2020 if Americans ate beans instead of beef.
This is the finding of a recent study, published in the journal Climatic Change. In addition, the change to beans instead of beef would free up 42% of America’s cropland, which could be restored to native habitat. Not to mention the benefit for human health (such as less colon cancer and heart disease), and of course the reduction in animal cruelty.
The Animal Justice Party is the only political party that recognises the large contribution of animal agriculture to greenhouse gas emissions and dangerous climate change. Hence the AJP advocates a move away from animal products to a plant-based diet.
The Greens pride themselves on being “the only party with the courage to tackle catastrophic global warming & transition Australia away from coal towards a clean energy economy.” (https://greens.org.au/global-warming)
It is a great disappointment that the Greens don’t also have the courage to acknowledge the dangers of animal agriculture, especially cattle. Perhaps not surprising, since their leader breeds cattle!
