Candidate for Spence
Rita is the youngest of six children and a fourth generation South Australian. Her grandparents were market gardeners in Adelaide and mixed farmers in the mid north. Rita’s parents were small business people for 44 years before retiring and handing the business over to her. For as long as Rita can remember animals have been an important part of her life; despite having never bought a cat Rita has never been without at least two – she currently has five, all were feral kittens that found their way to her doorstep, perhaps divine intervention brought them to the right place. Rita has always had an affinity for animals, even before she knew there was such a thing and living everyday with that strong sense of kinship with her own animals is what makes her determined to secure a voice for animals in the Australian Federal parliament.
