The meeting attracted 13 animal political parties from around the world and covered a range of topics that will benefit the AJP. Steve and Mark presented cases on the live trade in animals and the trade in kangaroo products. The meeting agreed there would be international collaboration among members to stamp out trade in both industries.
Other topics of relevance covered were international free trade agreements and the impacts on animals, campaigning to save Asian elephants and initiatives to help stray dogs.
All parties for animals were at different stages of evolution with the Dutch Party for the Animals, the Portuguese Party for Animals and Nature (PAN), and the AJP having had representatives elected to their respective parliaments at this stage. Party issues such as beginning a party for animals, ensuring sustainability and use of social media were also discussed.
It was agreed that an international network of animal political parties would be set-up to share experiences and to collaborate on projects of multi-nation relevance.
